The Information Work of a Boulder Nissan Car Dealership

For this project, my team and I conducted in-depth interviews with a salesman, sales manager, and finance manager at the Boulder Nissan dealership to delineate the dealership's information flow. We aimed to map the data journey and identify operational challenges in their current systems.

Through our interviews, we uncovered three critical challenges: the prevalence of misinformation, the complexities arising from varying tax rates across states and counties, and the difficulty in synchronizing disparate systems. These challenges not only hinder operational efficiency but also pose significant risks to the dealership's financial accuracy.

To address these issues, we proposed a comprehensive design framework that integrates various systems to streamline data exchange and improve accuracy. Key recommendations include developing a robust system capable of accommodating fluctuating tax rates and creating a tool that aids in the accurate calculation of leases, ensuring proper tax application and seamless integration with existing platforms. Our approach emphasizes enhancing operational coherence and mitigating the risk of misinformation, ultimately driving greater efficiency and precision in dealership operations.
