The community around music: An exploration of the danceability and sentiment of popular songs

In this project, I investigate the influence of TikTok on popular music trends and the characteristics of the Billboard Top 100 songs. By analyzing data from APIs such as Billboard, Spotify, and AZLyrics, I examine the relationships between danceability, lyrical sentiment, and popularity. My findings reveal that while most popular songs exhibit high energy, there is no direct correlation between danceability and positive lyrics or popularity. This research underscores TikTok's role in diversifying musical tastes and highlights the complex dynamics of contemporary music communities. Future work could explore TikTok's API further to understand its impact on artist popularity over time.
