Data and Place: School and Crime in Chicago
In this project, my team and I explored the complex relationship between schools and crime in Chicago. We aimed to analyze how school locations, student demographics, and local crime rates intersect, affecting the educational environment and community safety.
We utilized various datasets, including crime statistics, school performance metrics, and neighborhood demographics, to map and visualize the spatial distribution of schools and crime incidents across the city. By employing data analysis techniques and geographic information systems (GIS), we aimed to uncover patterns and correlations that could inform policy decisions and community initiatives.
Throughout our investigation, we identified significant trends, such as the higher incidence of crime in neighborhoods with struggling schools. Our findings highlighted the importance of addressing not only educational disparities but also the broader socio-economic factors contributing to crime.
Ultimately, this project underscored the necessity of a holistic approach to urban planning and community development. By sharing our insights, we hope to contribute to discussions around improving educational access and enhancing safety in Chicago's neighborhoods.
